Mackinnon Stakes 2013 tips

Only a small field to take part in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes this year, continuing a worry trend over recent years. Rob Heathcote has produced some big results from a small team during the spring carnival this year. Buffering won his maiden Group 1 whilst Fire Up Fifi claimed the G2 Blazer Stakes and Solzhenitsyn, the second favourite in this race at $3.80, claimed consecutive Toorak Handicaps at his most recent start. Favourite is David Hayes’ Jet Away ($3.00) after an impressive performance first up in the Turnbull Stakes and a tenacious fifth in the G1 Caulfield Cup.

About the Mackinnon Stakes

The Mackinnon Stakes is a Group 1 race held under weight for age conditions, taking place each year during the Melbourne spring racing carnival. Raced over a distance of 2000 metres and worth $1,000,000 in prize money, the Mackinnon Stakes is an important part of Victoria Derby Day on the first day of the Melbourne Cup carnival.

The Mackinnon Stakes is a weight for age race hosted by Victoria Racing Club, held on the same day as the Myer Classic and the Coolmore Stud. This event is held in honour of LKS Mackinnon, a well respected former chairman of the Victoria Racing Club.

The Mackinnon Stakes has been run since 1869, with Glencoe winning the inaugural event.
